The Oppo Find X6 Pro (and Oppo X7 Ultra) is a powerful camera phone with a number of impressive features. One of these features is its portrait mode that I put to test:

The Oppo Find X6 Pro’s Portrait Mode Specs

The Oppo Find X6 Pro’s portrait mode uses a Sony IMX989 1" sensor lens with an x3 opening at f/1.4. This combination allows the camera to capture more light and produce images with a shallow depth of field. The camera also has a number of other features that help to improve portrait photos.

I tested the Oppo Find X6 Pro’s portrait mode by taking photos of a pigeon (all zoom photos are derivatives of the first image)

Challenges and Fixes

One of the challenges that we faced when using the Oppo Find X6 Pro’s portrait mode was the Chinese color OS ROM. This ROM can be difficult to use for users who are not familiar with Chinese interfaces. However, there are a number of fixes that can be applied to make the color OS ROM more user-friendly. These fixes include:

  • Custom launchers (e.g. Nova Launcher):
adb shell
pm disable com.android.launcher
pm enable com.microsoft.launcher
  • Nova launcher badges with premium and permission with shizukku app (no root required).
  • Google Gemini with constant selection of digital assistant at each restart.
  • Unfortunately, I was not able to find a fix for Google location history no matter what I tried (google play services, custom apk, web maps, change of device name…).

Conclusion

The Oppo Find X6 Pro is a powerful camera phone with an impressive portrait mode in low light conditions. While the Chinese color OS ROM can be difficult to use, there are a number of fixes that can be applied to make it more user-friendly.
