Can we Trust a Health AI with our Medical Data and Life?

First and foremost, I am not a practitioner. I have a PhD in Computer Science and Informatics with a focus on bioinformatics and complex systems but I cannot speak on behalf of a doctor (generalists and specialists).

I do find it however extremely helpful to get a second opinion from AI by submitting our medical record from a blood test or from a gadget like a smart watch or a smart scale. Ideally, the AI would be a multi-modal Large Language Model (MM-LLM) that can interpret images and text.

I am well aware that these MM-LLMs have no consciousness about what they are reading and writing, and that is a huge relief since I know they won’t have any personal bias of course keeping the data they were trained on and its biases aside.

I might not submit my personal records to any online AI that might be using my personal data, however, I would definitely submit it to a few and even better have my own AI running locally if possible.

I took the pleasure of showcasing some of the AIs (gemini, gpt-4 and claude3) and how they analyse my smart watch’s health data (HRV, ECG, SPO4, HR, BP, Lipid, Cholesterol, body components, blood components, BMI…etc) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTpW31zDSRE

Last but not least, to further concretize a practitioner’s report, I made an LLM https://flowgpt.com/p/alternative-doctors-association that can consult alternative doctors from alternative medicine that are often forgotten or seen as witchcraft although they hold great teachings.

1. Homeopathy: Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that believes in the principle of “like cures like.” It uses highly diluted substances to stimulate the body’s healing processes. Homeopathy is based on the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself, and that symptoms are a sign of the body trying to restore balance. Homeopathic remedies are often derived from plants, minerals, or animal sources.

2. Ayurveda: Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine from India that focuses on achieving balance in the body, mind, and spirit. It believes that each person is made up of a unique combination of three doshas (energies) — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurvedic treatments may include herbal remedies, dietary changes, massage, yoga, and meditation to restore balance and promote health.

3. Allopathic medicine: Allopathic medicine, also known as Western medicine, is the conventional system of medicine practiced by medical doctors. It focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases using medications, surgery, and other interventions. Allopathic medicine is based on scientific research and evidence-based practices.

4. Energy therapies: Energy therapies are alternative healing practices that work with the energy fields of the body to promote health and well-being. This includes practices like Reiki, acupuncture, and qigong, which aim to balance the body’s energy flow and remove blockages. Energy therapies are based on the belief that imbalances in the body’s energy field can lead to physical, emotional, and mental health issues.

5. Naturopathy: Naturopathy is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on using natural remedies and techniques to support the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Naturopathic doctors may use a combination of herbal medicine, nutrition, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and lifestyle changes to treat patients. The goal of naturopathy is to address the root cause of illness and promote overall wellness.

6. Traditional Chinese medicine: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive system of medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years in China. It includes practices such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage (Tui Na), dietary therapy, and qigong. TCM is based on the principles of yin and yang, the five elements, and the flow of Qi (energy) in the body. It aims to restore balance and harmony to the body to prevent and treat illness.

What are you thought on this, especially on Health MM-LLMs and the alternative doctors’ association? How and when woud you use it if ever?
